CONCEPT

Waseda is a place of education not only for Japanese. It is a dream destination for international students who come to Japan to study hard with their great dreams.
With the aim of becoming “A bridge between the world and Japan” Waseda Keifuku Language Academy was founded in 2009 in Waseda-Natsumezaka.
“立志在日本、放眼干世界。追求真善美、造福全人類。”
This is a message that I want to convey to all international students.
“With a learning heart in Japan, have the whole world in view.
(Because of the convenience of the Internet and digitization is pursued today)
Pursuing truth, goodness and beauty while valuing culture.
Become a rich person that contribute to the people of the world.” is what it means.

Greeting: Japanese language school is a school that teaches Japanese language to non-native speakers of Japanese, but here at Waseda Keifuku Language Academy, we teach Japanese culture, social system, and ways of thinking with language at the same time, and educate people to become international talents.

favorite Japanese word: うつはには従いながら,巖がねもとほすは水の力なりけり(Water is soft, and you put it in a container of whatever shape, it becomes that shape. But water is also powerful, it can cut hard rocks from the roots.)

I think it is interesting that the languages of various countries have changed to Japanese.

DAICHI TSUJI

favorite Japanese word: 牛乳は飲むより配達するほうが体にいい（Deliver the milk is better for your health than just drinking it.）

funny and strange Japanese word: するめ：Make、hold、give、perform、execute、do、perform、practice、scoop
あたりめ：Face、confront、meet、take on、play、encounter、meet、contact、touch
In Japan, there is a saying called” money was scooped/stolen”, and the word ” scoop /stolen” is considered as bad luck.
During congratulatory event such as Yuino (exchange of engagement gifts) and weddings, the word “Hold/Scoop” is changed to “Encounter”. The meaning of the word does not change, another word is used to replace it only, and this is often used in Japanese style conversion.it.

TOMOO YAMASHITA

favorite Japanese word: ゆとり
Although the mean of “ゆとり” is that you can afford something, It also means independence and a wide field of view.

funny and strange Japanese word: 踏んだり蹴ったり（Stepping on and kicking）
Why not “stepped on or kicked”? It is one of the words that I have been interested in as a strange Japanese word for a long time.

favorite Japanese word: 一期一会（Once in a while）

funny and strange Japanese word: かわいい（Kawaii）
When young people often use a lot of”Kawaii” as a compliment, I feel that it is unique to Japanese.

（Posh way of saying “How are you?”）

Destination School: University of Tokyo

MESSAGE: Combine with the study at Keifuku academy, private school and part-time job after class, I successfully got admitted to the Tokyo University.

At first, I chose Japan, which has relatively few cultural differences with China, and came to Keifuku language academy. Although I has passed the JLPT N1 before entering the academy, I couldn’t use Japanese for daily conversation at that time, and assigned to a lower level class. Now I am a part-time teacher in a private school outside the academy. Through this job, I have experienced how difficult it is to teach and educate people. When I think back to my time in Keifuku language academy, I can understand how hard the teachers who taught us. Thanks to their enthusiastic guidance and hard work that make me successfully admitted to the Tokyo University.

MESSAGE: Thanks to Keifuku Language Academy, I found my goal.

I am interested in Japanese subculture, so I decided to study abroad in Japan. At the beginning I didn’t have a clear goal and didn’t even know which major I wanted to study. Then I have received various advice through active interviews with the teachers. Thanks to that, I decided to take the courage to study the subject of my interest. When preparing for the exam, teachers carefully revised the plan for me and practiced the interview together. Finally, I passed the entrance exam of Waseda University Graduate School. I cherish the time I was at Keifuku language academy. Even now, while attending the class from Waseda University, I was also working part-time at Keifuku Language Academy and want to support the juniors who pursue their dreams by learning from my own experience.

GU WENLONG

Destination School: Hitotsubashi University, Graduate School

MESSAGE: Before came to Japan, I have studied Japanese at the University in China and passed the N1 test of JLPT. Therefore, it was a little unwilling to learn the content again at Japanese language school. However, after half a year of study, my consider has changed completely. I was surprised to find that there are so many Japanese words which cannot be found on the textbooks, and many of them were Japanese I didn’t know. These knowledges are acquired through communication with teachers in class and this made me completely relieved of my initial concerns. Thanks to the teacher’s guidance and help, I can be admitted to the graduate school successfully.

I believe that the new students who want to enter Waseda keifuku language academy can also find what they want to pursue.
