電車の場合

For people who come to Japan from abroad

When you first come to Japan, you must be very surprised at a large number of trains. Around Tokyo, there are a lot of companies of railways, and you have to pay for fare to every railway’s company. In other words, as long as you are taking on the same company’s trains, you just pay for fare from the first station to the last station, even if you change the trains. Refer to the following drawing.

各停(Kakutei)：
A train which stops at every station

快速・急行(kaisoku / kyuukou)：
A train which stops at limited stations to arrive the destination earlier (same fare as Kakutei)

特急(Tokkyu)：

A train which stops at limited stations to arrive the destination earlier. However, you often have to pay extra fare.

JR：

私営電鉄：
